Funafuti, a capital of Tuvalu, is located on the islet of Fongafale, part of Funafuti Atoll. It has a population over 6,000 people, making it the most populated atoll with 58% of Tuvalu's population. Tuvalu has a population just over 10,000 people, most of whom live in the country's capital Funafuti. Increasing urbanisation, along with climate change, pose big threats to this tiny Pacific country. Migration from the outer islands to the main island of Fongafale is placing increasing pressure on water supplies and land availability, while employment opportunities in the small formal sector are limited. Moreover, stronger 'King Tides', Saltwater intrusion into the groundwater and extreme weather events are making this island nation one of the most vulnerable countries in the world.
