Children on a muddy street on the Nui Atoll, which was badly hit by the Cyclone Pam in March 2015. Lot of debris and sand was deposited on roads which in turn become a quagmire in the rain. The Nui Atoll was affected by storm surges caused by Cyclone Pam in which 12 houses were completely destroyed and 110 homes badly damaged. 71 families (40% of the population) from Nui were displaced and were living in evacuation centres or with other families. According to Tuvalu Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga estimated 45 percent of the nation's nearly 10,000 people were displaced.
