The body of an endangered Cape cormorant chick lies on the necropsy table at the morgue at SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) seabird hospital. The bird was one of almost 2,000 rescued after being abandoned by their parents on Robben Island. Many succumbed to infections and other conditions related to exposure, malnutrition and predation.
