ATO Primate Sanctuary rescues primates, many of which are orphans whose parents were killed by hunters and poachers. The combination of habitat loss through deforestation and hunting is having a severe effect on the country's primate populations, and some of the species housed at the sanctuary are critically endangered. The sanctuary hopes to be able to rehabilitate the animals and release them into the wild, but for this needs both resources and and access to safe habitat in which to help the animals transition.
