Children sit on the remains of a house destroyed by the rising seas that threaten the whole isaland nation. Abaiang is one of Kiribati's atolls that is most threatened by rising sea levels. The country's government says Tebunginako is a 'barometer for what Kiribati can expect in the future'. Since the 1970s the village's residents have seen the sea levels rise and eventually erosion has meant that a major part of the village has had to be abandoned.
