The perimeter walls of a coal-fired power station are emblazoned with an advertisement displaying the words 'International Standard' in Chinese. This particular coal power station is situated by a school in a residential area. The roads and nearby farmland of this small village are blackened with coal dust and fly ash. China is one of the world's largest producers and consumers of coke fuel. It is also one of the world's largest producers of both carbon and sulphur dioxide.
