Dog sledding is offered as a tourist activity, and some locals use prefer that mode of transport over snowmobiles. The Arctic island of Spitsbergen is the largest of islands in the group that makes up Svalbard. The islands are close to the North Pole and about 60% of the land mass is covered by glaciers. The main activities are mining, tourism and Arctic research. © Fredrik Naumann
