The body of Ye Min Khine (42) wrapped in plastic at the hospital morgue in Hpakant. The man, who worked at a jade mine, died in a disaster at the mining site in Hmaw Warn Lay. The collapse of a huge lake of sludge killed at least 55 people working for various companies operating at the site. Originally from Kyaukse in Mandalay, Ye Min Khine came to Hpakant over a decade ago and worked for the Myanmar Thura jade mining company as a machine repairer. He was providing for his elderly parents and, like other families of the victims, his family received compensation money from the company, an often practiced solution made by mining companies to prevent any future complaint.
