Alexis Tsipras, leader of the Greek Syriza Party, at a press conference organised by the German Left Party ('Die Linke'). Tsipras leads a left-wing umbrella group of Greek left-wing and green parties who are opposed to the austerity measure imposed on the country to overcome its sovereign debt crisis. The party did well in the May 2012 Greek parliamentary elections which resulted in deadlock, with no party strong enough to form a government. Greek voters will go the polls again on June 17 in a second attempt at electing a viable government.
