Chaotic scenes in court at the end of the long genocide trial of Mengistu Haile Mariam, former dictator of Ethiopia. Relatives of some of the 73 defendants (only 33 of whom were in court) try to greet them but are prevented by guards. Mengistu, one of those absent, living in exile, was sentenced to life imprisonment. His Derg regime, in power from 1974 to 1991, is accused of killing tens of thousands of people in what became known as the Red Terror.
