Doctors were fighting to save the lives of some of the babies who have fallen sick after they were fed milk powder contaminated with melamine, an industrial chemical used to make plastic cups and saucers. The government released a statement indicating the number of children in China poisoned by dairy products tainted with the banned industrial chemical had reached 53,000.
