Anglophile Carla, from Alicante, tries to improve her English by talking with Mike at the bar of The English Speaking Club El Campello. On the wall beside them is a photograph of Queen Elizabeth II and below it, one of the former King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia, with a dedication to the club written by the monarch himself. Spain is home to more British ex-pats than anywhere else in the world, mostly concentrated in its Mediterranean regions and there are numerous clubs and organisations catering to this population. The English Speaking Club El Campello, whose president is former RAF and the vice-president a former policeman, organises raffles, dances, trips and games etc and has over 400 members. Spaniards are welcome, if they are trying to learn or improve their English.
