A patient whose ankles are shackled with rope and crepe bandages lies on a mat in a small dark cell at the Emmanuel Rehabilitation Centre for Mentally Ill People which is run by Miss Mojisola Adeniyi. They treat patients with injectable drugs that they receive from a pharmacy. They administer medication every day and they also use prayer to heal their patients who are aged from 18 to 70 year old. Many of the patients are kept in chains. Mojisola Adeniyi says they use chains ''because this is an open place. If you don't use chains they might take off and go back to the street again.'' Also, she claims that, ''some are physically violent. If you don't put chains on there is no way you can hold them.'' They say that half of the people in the facility have been abandoned by their families.
