Sgt 1st class John Stricklett of the 22nd Chemical Battalion EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) based at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, wears an 85lb bomb disposal suit. However, to save lives, the army relies on increasingly sophisticated robots to secure IEDs and inspect suspect devices. The armour suit is used as a last resort. At the Aberdeen Proving Ground the US military and civilian contractors spearhead the fight against Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), the leading killer of US and British forces in Afghanistan.
