The destroyed and abandoned town of Fuzuli, once home to more than 26,000 people. The Fizuli region of Azerbaijan was occupied by Armenia in 1988 and was recaptured by the Azeris during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Fuzuli was once a rich agricultural land but was left in ruin after nearly 30 years of neglect under Armenian control. 130,000 mainly ethnic Azeris were displaced from Fuzuli in the early 1990s during the first Karabakh war.
