Dr. Meriem Achour, a haematologist, pausing to answer a woman's question at the Aziza Othmana Hospital where she works in Tunis. Founded in 1662, the hospital is the country's oldest and is the main haematology centre for the city and surrounding region. In addition to other responsibilities, Dr. Achour estimates she manages and treats 600 - 700 sickle cell disease patients.
