A technician in a tuberculosis (TB) laboratory managed by AMREF (African Medical and Research Foundation) uses a microscope to study sputum samples collected from inhabitants of the Kibera slum, while a patient deposits his samples through the hatch. TB is a common disease among inhabitants of the slum on account of its proximity to congested streets, lack of adequate sanitation and overcrowding.
