In the girls' dormatory at the Kirugaluga Baptist Primary School, every evening, the matron (woman in charge of the dormatory) lights the room with solar lights. A year-six student recalls the perils of studying by candlelight. ''Sometimes candles can lead to fire and more than once I've burned my book''. While another one girl said, ''I have knocked over a candle and set fire to my bed''. Another pupil stated ''Using solar lights is important because we see what we are writing and they are useful in reading books. I read books in order to be a nurse''.
