In preparation for 'Global Handwashing Day' pupils at Ecole Evangelique Baptiste receive a lesson in the importance of good sanitation. This lesson is part of a project run by the Belgian NGO PROTOS. Since it started there is toilet paper and soap in each classroom and the pupils have been taught how important it is to always wash their hands after each visit to the toilet. In 2011, according to WHO and UNICEF, only 48 percent of the rural population had access to drinking water and only 29 percent had sanitation facilities.
