A demonstrator dressed in a gorilla suit and wearing a policeman's cap reaches across the perimeter fence around the Cuadrillia drilling site in Balcombe, West Sussex to shake hands with a private security guard during an anti fracking demonstration. The protesters at Balcombe in West Sussex are worried about the environmental effects of hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) which involves injecting a mixture of water, chemicals and sand into shale rock in order to extract oil and gas trapped below ground. They have been joined by anti fracking demonstrators from across the UK and Ireland. The energy company Cuadrilla is prospecting for oil and gas in West Sussex and the protesters are keen for the company to stop its operations to preserve the natural environment.
