Joyce Mbele's grave in the millet field by her house in the Drakensberg mountains near Loksop. Joyce died of an Aids related illness in early 2008. Since then, Lihle, the eldest of three, has been responsible not just for her siblings, but for her cousins and aunt, who is ill with Aids and TB. Child-headed households such as this are becoming more common in South Africa, as the Aids epidemic continues to ravage the country.
