A teenage patient who suffers from sickle cell diseas undergoing a blood exchange transfusion. Every three weeks the patient travels approximately 100km from her home to the National Bone Marrow Transplant Centre for the transfusion that greatly reduces the risk of a potentially life-threatening cerebrovascular accident (stroke) and allows her to live a normal life.
