Jacques Antoine, 48 years old (blue shirt), tends to his fruit tree saplings on one of his plots in the mountains. Because wood is the main energy source in Haiti, the country is suffering from deforestation. Jacques is receiving aid from the Belgian NGO Protos in order to plant fruit trees and construct stone walls to combat erosion and deforestation. These trees will not only give him fruits which he can sell on the local market but the trees will also protect his land.
