Men in white robes, drip with blood from self-inflicted wounds during Ashura when men hit themselves on the chest in a rhythmic ritual called tatraab. They also cut their own heads with especially sharpened swords. Ashura marks the anniversary of the Battle of Kerbala and is a period of intense grief among Shi'ite followers of Islam.
