Arjan, a Dutch military medic holds 9 month old Essakhan after he had an operation on his intestines, at a medical facility run by Dutch and Australian troops affiliated to ISAF (International Security Assistance Force). Besides casualties from within the ISAF forces, the facility also treats Afghan civilian patients, victims of conflict related incidents. Most patients are complicated cases referred from the local hospital in Tarin Kowt. ISAF is a peacekeeping mission affiliated to the United Nations (UN) and NATO.
