A relative of Arwad Abu Shaheen, a twenty-five-year-old bride from the Druze (Druse) village of Bukata, watches from a UN zone crossing along the Israeli-Syrian border as Arwad leaves Israel in order to marry her Syrian fiance, thirty-year-old Muhanad Hareb. The Druze community of the Golan Heights, an area occupied by Israel in the Six-Day war, maintain Syrian relations and many of the Druze residents remain loyal to the Syrian regime.
