Community latrines in the township Station 11 in Villiersdorp, near the Theewaterskloof reservoir. In early 2018, when the dam's water was predicted to decline to critically low levels, the city announced plans for 'Day Zero', when the municipal water supply would largely be shut off, potentially making Cape Town the first major city in world to run out of water. However, strict rationing staved off 'Zero Day' until the winter 2018 rainy season ended a three year drought and replenished the reservoir sufficiently to enable the city authorities to ease the water ration.
