Ruben from Yakel village on Tanna Island stands in front of a traditional tree house. Yakel village is known for its preservation of traditional lifestyle and culture and is a tourist attraction. The village was damaged by Cyclone Pam and locals lost their homes and gardens. Since much of the tourist trade stopped after the Cyclone hit the country, Yakel people also lost their income from foreign visitors.<br />
Cyclone Pam, a tropical storm that hit the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on 13 March 2015, is considered one of the worst natural disasters to affect the country. Over 15 people died in the storm and winds up to 165 mph (270 km/h) caused widespread damage to houses and infrastructure.
