"Red shirt" protesters taunt the Thai military as they retreat at the Democracy monument in central Bangkok. More than 20 people were killed during the clashes as the army opened fire with live ammunition, tear gas and rubber bullets. A handful of soldiers also died and ane journalist was shot dead. The army withrew leaving 6 armoured personnel carriers (seen here) and two Humvees which were then vandalised by the protesters. They also deserted the drivers of the vehicles. They were nearly linched by an angry crowd but later rescued by "red Shirt" organisers.
