Fowzia Mahmoud Saeed works with women in Hamesh Koreb. The town practices a conservative form of Islam where men and women (even married couples) are completely segregated. A wall divides the two sides of the town where the men and the women live. The area was the stronghold of the Eastern Front who were allied to the Southern forces against the government in Khartoum during the country's civil war. The remote region has few public services or economic development.
