Paul Karuri, the driver of a bus whose windows were shattered by mobs who had erected illegal road blocks near Bomet Town. Mr Karuri, a Kikuyu, feared that he and his passengers may be killed, so he kept driving and they were then rescued by police. Members of the Kikuyu tribe had been targeted in ethnic violence following protests against disputed election results. President Mwai Kibaki, a Kikuyu, was suspected of rigging the vote to retain power.
