Ellie Farndon looks for ammonites with her mother on the beach at Lyme Regis during a fossil tour with geologist Paddy Howe. The Farndon family came fossil hunting after Ellie heard the story of famous 19th century collector Mary Anning and decided she wanted to become a paleontologist. Anning, who was long sidelined by the scientific community, has recently become better recognised for her role in the development of palaeontology, and her story is now inspiring a new generation of female fossil hunters.
