34 year old Tuwae Timoh Masae grieves over her murdered husband, Gayo Masae, who was shot on the steps of his mosque in Talok Ao village, Pattani. The insurgency in Southern Thailand began as a conflict between the Malay muslim population and central government, but now the boundaries have become blurred and various guerilla groups have become involved. No-one seems certain as to who is fighting who. As of March 2008, the insurgency had claimed as many as 3,000 lives.
