Kristina was only 13 when she was raped during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war. She and her sister were caught by a Serbian patrol and taken to the school gymnasium in Foca where women were being kept in a ërape campí. The first night Kristina was taken to a classroom and raped by one of the soldiers. ìAfter he finished he hit me with his fist, and called me a Muslim cockroach. Afterwards, I was in spasms, convulsing, bleeding. I was a virgin. He ordered me to stand up. I wanted to pick up my clothes and hide my nakedness - my disfigured body. He told me not to touch my clothes. I was taken back to the gymnasium and discovered my sister was gone. I ran around looking for her. She came back in at 4am and could barely stand. I held her in the darkness. That moment was the biggest sadness of our lives. I lost count of how many times I was taken over the next three weeks.î.Between 25,000 and 50,000 women were raped during the conflict. Only 11 men have been convicted..©Robin Hammond/PANOS/Felix Features
