Alexander Kutlubaev, the captain of the 'Fedor Ushakov' icebraking and supply ship, guides the vessel using an Azipod control lever during a challenging journey through icy waters in the Sannikov Strait. <br />

Two Azipod units with a total capacity of 13 MW and an icebreaking hull form provides the vessel with great icebreaking capacity and maneuverability. During the voyage, only 50 per cent of the engine's maximum power was used, which was certainly beneficial in terms of her environmental impact. On a number of voyage segments, the vessel has had to sail through 50-60 cm thick ice fields with a snow cover of up to 20 cm and hummock ridges.
