Two mahouts drag the decapitated trunk of a 14-year-old male wild elephant that had been killed for its skin and tusks by poachers the day before. In this case, the poachers took only the tusks of the elephant and managed to escape just before the security forces arrived, leaving the skin behind. Poachers often decapitate male elephants with tusks in order to obtain the whole of the tusk including its innermost part. For elephants without tusks, they kill the animal then skin it.
