Owners of a warung (coffee shop), 42 year old Fathoni and his 36 year old wife Sulami, in Gempul Sari village, which sits on the edge of the mud flow zone. They lost their former jobs in a factory that was flooded, and live in fear of a breach of the mud dam. Since May 2006, more than 10,000 people in the Porong subdistrict of Sidoarjo have been displaced by hot mud flowing from a natural gas well that was being drilled by the oil company Lapindo Brantas. The torrent of mud - up to 125,000 cubic metres per day - continued to flow three years later.
