A child runs down towards the submerged Besuki village. Diggers continue building up the earthen dam walls that are stopping the mud flow from expanding. Since May 2006, more than 10,000 people in the Porong subdistrict of Sidoarjo have been displaced by hot mud flowing from a natural gas well that was being drilled by the oil company Lapindo Brantas. The torrent of mud - up to 125,000 cubic metres per day - continued to flow three years later.
