30 year old Pak Sutrisno (right) sits in the "home" he and his family of six inhabit in the market complex of Porong town. A former resident of the now completely submerged Renokonongo village, Sutrisno was a rice farmer who has lost his land and his income in the mud flow disaster. Since May 2006, more than 10,000 people in the Porong subdistrict of Sidoarjo have been displaced by hot mud flowing from a natural gas well that was being drilled by the oil company Lapindo Brantas. The torrent of mud - up to 125,000 cubic metres per day - continued to flow three years later.
