East German Border Guards look through a newly opened section of the Berlin Wall a few days after the opening of the Wall on November 9, 1989. In the background is the former "death strip", or no-man's land, between segments of the Wall that was almost impossible to cross. On the top of the Wall are celebrating East and West Germans who would have been shot only a few days before. The side facing East remains white while the West facing side is covered in graffiti. A caption reads "Walls exist just to be pulled down.".
