Job seekers from the countryside arrive on the edge of Chongqing city to apply for work at the Foxconn factory. The workers, mostly children of farmers, are part of a generation that is quickly urbanizing. They are being picked up at the light rail station for interview at Apple's contract factory. If they succeed, they would land jobs making Apple products including the iPhone. Foxconn hit the news last year when it was rocked by a series of workers' suicide. The Chinese government plans to move 250 million rural residents into urban areas over the coming dozen years though it is unclear whether people want to move and where the money for this project will come from. Further urbanisation is meant to drive up consumption to counterbalance an export orientated economy and end subsistence farming but the drive to get people off the land is causing tens of thousands of protests each year. /Felix Features
