The funeral of an AIDS victim in a small village outside Lilongwe, Malawi on March 9, 2001. Many adults in the village have died of the disease, orphaning their children. More than 13 million African children have been orphaned by the AIDS pandemic. Worldwide, more than 20 million people have died since 1981.
