Mrs Nahau Roone, a former Manus Island MP, was one of 3 women elected in the first post-independence election in Papua New Guinea in 1977 and is one of only 10 women ever elected to the PNG Parliament. She was Minister for Justice in the 1977 Somare administration and President of the National Council of Women.
