People in traditional costume leading cows decorated with flowers, flags and large bells in the seasonal migration of cows from Alpine pastures down to lower land for winter. Behind is the alpage, at 1500 metres where the farmers and their employees live for the summer and produce cheese. This fixed transhumance is one of the cornerstones of traditional Swiss farming, and such rituals are undergoing a revival.
