Doctor Lewen Taleb, aged 30, and midwife Maha, aged 20, deliver a newborn baby during a 24-hour shift in the maternity unit (birth centre) at Sayoun General Hospital. Maha has received midwifery training from Oxfam as part of a regional scheme to improve access to healthcare in Hadramout. Sayoun General Hospital is the only hospital for the entire district. Patients here usually have to pay for both treatment and medicines, but babies are delivered free of charge.
