A mural of Frans van der Lugt, also known as Father Frans, a Dutch Jesuit priest who lived in Syria for 50 years. He operated a community farm and vineyard that benefitted mentally handicapped people. Throughout the siege Father Frans reamined in the city refusing to leave. He was assasinated in April 2014, presumably by gunmen from the fundamentalist Al-Nusra Front. His remains were buried at the churchyard in Homs. and a big tombstone as well as a memorial was erected.
