Two women wade through flood waters caused by the spring tide. They live in a settlement known as the as the Taisala or the Borrow Pits, where sand and rocks were excavated by the American military during WW2 in order to build a runway. The land was never reinstated leaving a series artificial lagoons that pockmark the district. The tiny Pacific island nation is one of the few places in the world already experiencing the devastating effects of climate change and global warming.
