The Art Deco Ministry of Education building on Liberation Avennue which was built in 1928 and extended 1940 as Casa del Fascio. Art Deco continued to flourish into the 1960s as local architects adopted the movement first introduced during Italian colonial era. Asmara is an Art Deco treasure trove and UNESCO is considering making the city a World Heritage Site in recognition of its outstanding Modernist architecture.
