The giant wheels of the Machendranath chariot. Rato Machendranath is a fifteen metre tall chariot with six-foot high wheels, made entirely out of wood and vines. The structure contains no nails and no pegs and is built in honour of the Hindu god Machendranath, protector of Kathmandu and bringer of rain. Each year the giant structure is built by hand and wheeled through the streets of Patan.
