Horsemen and a giant post-Gaddafi Libyan flag in the recently christened Martyr's Square. After he came to power, in 1968, Muammar Gaddafi renamed it Green Square. In 1951, following Independence from Italy it was called Independence Square. During Italian colonial rule it was named Piazza Italia.
